It's interesting how the article avoids the question of how the little money laundering machine, er, I mean country, avoided absorbtion into the Third Reich. My best guess is that, like their Swiss neighbors, the Nazis found it advantageous to have someplace independent to invest and hide their personal finances, especially after Stalingrad... The principality's blather about having the "right people in charge" practically confirms this. They certainly weren't diplomatic or military geniuses. But mercenary - that's an Alpine specialty...
