LET'S GIVE IT TO 'EM, RIGHT NOW!

As always, I cannot recommend too highly Little Steven's Underground Garage radio show - the best of its kind - ever. And this week's episode, (archived at the link above), is one of the greatest. It's entirely devoted to that Shakti-like thunderbolt of Rock As Religion - Louie Louie. Steve provides his usual expert description of the history and importance of the song along with several of the over 2,400 versions that have been recorded (!). Wonderful stuff.
I would also heartily recommend checking out Dave Marsh's definitive study of this Holy Grail of Garage/Frat Rock - http://www.press.umich.edu/titleDetailDesc.do?id=6722 .
I'd also recommend the Louie Louie Pages at http://www.xs4all.nl/~tdg/louie1.html ; and the Louie Report at http://www.louielouie.net/blog/. And to keep up to date on all things Louie, requires subscribing to the Yahoo Group at http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/louie-louie/ . This would make the coolest National Anthem. Much better than that screech-fest about an obscure artillery duel in Baltimore.
