RIP Mike Douglas

(Thanks for the link, Pete!)
Douglas was the squarest man on TV in the 60's and 70's, yet managed to befriend an amazing number of rock'n'roll artists. He was probably second only to Ed Sullivan in the number of pop music people he had on his show, and they genuinely seemed to get along, (the aloof and mercurial Sly Stone honestly seemed to have a good time with Mike, as did Lennon and his tick bird).

Rob: Actually Mike Douglas apparently did not really like Lennon all that much. The "Appreciation" which appeared in the Post mentioned that Douglas in his autobiography referred to Lennon as being an oboxious person. While he saved his real vemon for Yoko Ono. Regarding Yoko, Doulgas conceded that she was so much of a pain that if she and Lennon stayed around any longer, Yoko would have been known for not only busting up the Beatles, but also busting up the Mike Douglas show...
