Grace Of My Heart

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116442/

I missed this film when it came out about ten years ago, and just got around to catching it on DVD. One of the most charming movies I've seen in a long time. It's not a perfect flick, but it's a great timepiece about the struggles of being a female songwriter in the sixties. The main character is based on Carole King, and there are excellent caricatures of people like Don Kirshner, the Everlys, Brian Wilson, Little Eva, the Cookies, the Drifters, Ellie Greenwich, Jerry Goffin, Lesley Gore (who comes out in the movie!), and a few neat walk-ons by folks like China Kantner and Chris Isaak. But the lead, played by Illeana Douglas, and her interactions with everyone else are really moving, (particularly with John Turturro's Kirshner/Spector character). The soundtrack is dead-on, with tunes provide by Bacharach & Costello, Gerry Goffin, Lesley Gore, Joni, and Los Lobos, amongst others. A very touching movie. I've watched it three times in the past week.
