1967
I picked up an issue of Rolling Stone for something to read on the plane last week. First time I'd read it in years. It was devoted to the 40th anniversary of the Summer of '67. There wasn't much new to offer, (how could there be?), but it seemed to be a pretty reasonable take on things. As usual, the mass media tend to hype things out of all proportion. It wasn't all "The Summer Of Love" that some make it out to be, and it certainly wasn't the evil black tide of chaos that cultural conservatives bleat on about. But it was, and always will be, very interesting, challenging, questioning, silly, fun, dangerous, naive, and a wonderful summer for a kid to be listening to radio and hanging out in Colorado. This was the soundtrack:

I glanced at a copy of the same issue while at Barnes & Noble last night. The thing that struck me is that the Rolling Stone issue from 1967 sure wouldn't have had as many ads!! Just flipping through it, I couldn't find the articles. If you think it's worth it, I'll take some more time with it (but probably won't buy it).
