Happy Labor Day!

http://www.usa.gov/Topics/Labor_Day.shtml
We can talk about September 21st and the Fall Equinox all that we want to; every kid knows that TODAY is the last day of Summer. And as much as I enjoy Fall, (and particularly Fall weather), there is something almost nostalgically depressing about the end of Summer, and feeling the steely grip of school reaching out for me, (even if it's only a decades' old memory and jerk-reaction). For many, Labor Day represents a day off, perhaps a cookout or a last minute visit to the beach, with Jerry Lewis blubbering in the background on the tube; for me, it has always symbolized a return to regimen, made slightly more palatable by the growing shadows and mysteries of Autumn.
As always, I am a creature of habit and ritual. And there is a song that came out in the Summer of '69 that's one of my all-time faves, by Sly and the Family Stone, that I have played every Labor Day since then. It captures the moment for me. Enjoy.
