dog days
And here we are in mid July. It's hotter than a whore on nickel night here at the Manor. We've had quite a crop of fireflies this year, the Post has even written about it. And the bird population seems to be at an all-time high too, (our bird seed expenses are skyrocketing). One just sits back and watches the wheel turn. The time reminds me of so many activities of my youth, playing Kleeba in the old neighborhood, parking behind St Agnes school and drinking cheap wine, watching movies at the old Star Drive In, parties in my friend Cliff's parent's basement, catching frogs in the ditch behind my cousin Dolores's house, canoeing out at Fletcher's Lock, crab feasts at Ernie's, last call at the Cafe de Paris in Gtown, concerts at the Cap Center, catching Rocky Horror at the Key, birdwatching with the North Ridge Birdwatchers Association, avoiding brawls at Clancy's, going out for banana splits with my Dad, flying kites on the Mall, listening to Cousin Duffy play the hits on 'PGC, jogging with my friend Ken, Millie driving all of us kids up to 7/11 for a Slurpee, hanging out in my cousin Marshall's basement room listening to Cream and the Doors, going with Linda to feed the ducks at Green Springs Park, blasting down Braddock Road at midnight, and a hundred other cells of memory. I hope you have some pleasant memories of this time of year, and I hope you create some more. As for me, I'm gonna get another bourbon, see ya tomorrow.
