sad days
Like so much else, government contracts have their advantages - and their disadvantages. One of the latter is if the contract gets cut. The little crew I work with just got halved and three of my compatriots, through no fault of their own, got laid off this afternoon*. And in this economy, that's not a good thing. I've been on the wicked end of this type of thing three times in my life, and it's always terrified me. On those past occasions I could kind of see it coming, but this layoff came up suddenly and with no warning, caught all of us by surprise. We live in perilous times. I hope the rest of you are able to ride this recession out.
