Ah, time does not seem to have been very kind to ELO, I don't think their hipness quotient is particularly high at this point. But in the early and mid 70's it was, and I thought some of their work was great. They took Lennon's psychedelic phase and ran with it for all it was worth.

I think Jeff Lynn wanted to be John Lennon - or maybe just George Martin. Anyway, I agree with your post. My nephew is 22 and kind of a hipster and he likes them, though.
