nazis in West German intelligence

Of course, we employed our share, too. And it wouldn't surprise me if the British had a bunch on the payroll. What's more interesting to me is their effectiveness, and there's something of a debate regarding that. My own suspicion is that they were, on the whole, useless. Now, there were some remnants of an anti-Soviet resistance left over in the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe after the war. But I believe virtually all of these could more accurately be described as nationalist-based, rather than nazi holdouts, (despite Soviet labelling efforts). As for real German nazis having special networks or expertise, I think it was a wash. What you had were men desperate to avoid the hangman's noose puffing up their worth to nations equally desperate to get a handle on the Soviets. I'd rather veiw this as one more example of how fear leads one to try out a great many things, (some of them not so smart, or even criminal, in retrospect), in order to win. There are dozens of major to middling examples throughout the Cold War.
