It was a horrendous failure, by all accounts. But, as the article states, a lot was learned that helped prepare the way for D-Day. And, if I may allowed to speculate a bit, I think it put the brakes on an invasion of France in '43, which many of the American and Russian high commands wanted and which I believe would have been a very dicey proposition, with the possibility of the defeat of the invasion force.
