Yes, I know it sounds silly,but this is actually a pretty interesting deal. Sooner or later, it seems like there will be machines capable of sustaining themselves in a natural environment. And sooner or later, it seems that there will also be machines that can reproduce themselves, (granted, these may be nano-type machines, etc.). Combine those two features and you're getting around to having to rethink your definitions of "life".
