A mixed Halloween

Well, we only had about 40 trick or treaters.  I suppose I can't really blame them for the small numbers.  The houses in our neighborhood are spaced pretty far apart, and easily a third of them are darkened, (the owners don't want to be bothered with t-o-t's), which makes it even more of a hike.  We only had a few teenagers out, (a group I have little respect for - shouldn't you be learning to drive a car or something a little more sophisticated than begging for a Mars bar?).
My main complaint is with some of the younger kids.  Guys - you're supposed to dress like zombies, not act like them too.  I mean for some of these fools it's all they can do to shuffle up and knock at the door; the tapping of Poe's raven would be like ragnorok compared to the feeble knocks of some of these kids.  And some couldn't even muster the vigor to say "Trick-or-treat!" - they just stood there, mutely.  Very disappointing, as we raise great groups of children so un-socialized that saying hello is a foreign burden too complex to master.
But some of the kids were enthusiastic, and the costumes were scary, etc.  It wasn't a total bummer.  And we did get the usual flyers thrown in our yard by the local Christians telling us we were going to hell for decorating for Halloween, so it wasn't an entire loss....
