Fascinating. I've never heard of this documentary before, nor of incidents of cannibalism within the Japanese military. I'd be curious as to what the details were. This would imply the total breakdown of discipline in these pockets. It would also be a major exception to the usual reaction to finding themselves in an untenable situation - that of committing suicide, preferably by attacking (the infamous "Banzai Charge"); and instead preying upon one another to live on for....what?
