Snowmageddon
Sigh. Well, in the past six hours we've had an ice storm, rain, thunder and lightning, sleet and snow. There's about three inches of the white stuff on the ground right now, and more accumulating every minute. It's so heavy with moisture that the tree limbs are now nearly touching the ground from the weight. Power lines should be cutting out all through the night - either from falling limbs catching 'em, or from their own snow-weight. In the past half hour we've had six flickers, and now all of the god damned clocks are flashing as a result, I feel like I'm at an ELO concert. After last year's debacle, I am beginning to develop a deep and abiding hatred of winter in general and snow in particular.
Nevertheless, the Manor stands proud and firm against the onslaught. Anticipating the deluge, I put enough logs under protective tarps to maintain a fire in our fireplace for a full day, or more. And we're never without a feast in the pantry and a well-stocked wine cellar. Others are not so lucky. There are reports that commutes home are running at about three miles per hour*. And people are abandoning their cars, (on the Interstates!). There'll be feasting amongst the cannibal culture of PG county tonight....
* I know, I know - for those of you from more snow oriented cultures, the idea that DC can collapse with just 3" of snow must seem a paragon of obscene wussiness. And you are correct.
