Thinkin' of '73

Memory is a tricky thing. Perhaps it was today's shitty weather, (cold, windy and rainy), or the angle of the sun when it poked out this afternoon.  But something triggered memories of this time of year in 1973.  It wasn't a particularly interesting time in my life, or anyone else's, for the most part.  Can't quite figure out why I can't shake the feeling.  I'll try to exorcise it with some tunes.  If my remaining brain cells serve me correctly, these were all hits around that time.

Loudon never liked this song.  His only hit.  But I've always had a soft spot for it.

The O'Jays were/are under-rated.  It was inevitable that Love Train would become the theme to Soul Train.  It was also a nice song to cruise to on a Spring afternoon

And then we have Lou, always there with a seductive alternative of freedom, decadence and lost abandon...

Finally, there's Steely Dan.  It's somewhat embarrassing to think of the world weariness in this tune, and know that we've almost come another 40 years.

And so, we keep reelin' in the years, and I'm gonna reel in another bourbon.  See ya tomorrow.
