Vintage Virginia Wine Festival coming up

http://manassaspark.patch.com/articles/30th-annual-vintage-virginia-wine-festival

I wish them well, but I have two problems with our local wine festivals. The first may be unavoidable - they are too popular. Twenty five years ago, the festivals were very modest affairs, even intimate. One could wander casually around and actually chat with the wine makers about the details of their offerings. The last couple of times I went, (at least ten years ago), the crowds were so thick that you had to practically elbow your way into a booth to get a taste of vino, with no opportunity to really hear about it.
The second difficulty is that they hold these things in the Summer. It's just too damn hot. You're out traipsing away in a beaten down field in a hundred degree weather, with humidity to match - the sun just baking you. That's no way to calmly examine wine. And it's impossible to enjoy a cab, I don't care how good it is. I wish these things were held in mid to late October.
