Summer...

And so, with the passing of the 4th, we enter into what I would describe as the middle of Summer. It's a sauna out around the Manor today, with clouds of gnats and bugs whose attacks I would describe as moving up to the category of Rape. And, as usual, I am reminded of tunes from Summers past. Enjoy!

The First Class - Beach Baby. A guilty pleasure. Most people I know can't stand this thing, but I love it. From the confusing, sweaty, and dangerous Summer of '74.

War - Summer. Probably my fave song by a great and innovative band. I think it captures a hot lazy afternoon perfectly. If I remember correctly this was a hit in '76.

Marvin Gaye - Too Busy Thinking 'Bout My Baby. From the late Spring and early Summer of '69. My fave song by Marvin. The soundtrack for when things are going right.

The Lovin' Spoonful - Summer In The City. From '66. More than once this tune has rattled around in my head while shuffling through DC in the heat.

Starbuck - Moonlight Feels Right. From emotional, confusing and perplexing Summer of 1976. So accurate that it's scary. (This one's for you, Edmund!)

Vanity Fair - Hitchin' A Ride. From 1970. Always liked this song, although I never hitched a ride.
