Back to tape???

I guess that I'd have several questions that always plagued old-style tapes:  Will this get brittle with age?  Will repeated usage stretch it and possibly damage or corrupt what is on it?  Is the tape and/or box more vulnerable to heat than current formats?  What, if any, are the effects of exposure to anything magnetic, or x-ray machines?
