Metro Escalator Etiquette

I always warn visitors to DC that they MUST NOT block the left side of our Metro's escalators.  Do NOT believe this stupid article.  I gave up reading Washingtonian decades ago, as it reduced itself to being a rag for millionaires - with ads for high-priced plastic surgeons, and articles with titles like "Are Two Chauffeurs Enough?", and "How To Own the Potomac River".  These people have never driven a car, much less taken the Metro.  And if they're in a hurry, then any resulting frustration is due to a back up of private jets at National. 
As for the real people of DC, please be aware that we have every right to KILL you if you're blocking the left side of the escalator.  We don't even have to make it look like an accident; hell we could sit on top of the cadaver crowing for hours, and the odds are that we'd never be arrested, (Metro police are as rare as hen's teeth, one can spend years travelling the system and never see one.  Some believe them to be a myth, although I remember tales from the Elders confirming that they once existed).  And if by some chance one was arrested, I can say that there's not a jury in this region that would treat it as anything more than self-defense or justifiable homicide. 
Do NOT block the escalator.
