Wilson Bridge, RIP

For those of you who are out of towners, next Monday at 11:59PM will be a very special time here in DC. They're going to demolish the Wilson Bridge, one of the most wretched, cursed, and unholy obstacles to traffic in the entire region. Virtually every native can relate personal horror stories of getting cught on it, or just being stuck in traffic jams somewhere else due to it, (I was once in a gridlock situation on King Street just East of TC Williams due to an accident that had occured at the Maryland end of the bridge). When that stupid "suicide" jumper tied things up, I was caught in a backup on Van Dorn Street outside of Landmark, (I can't believe the cops didn't blow that loser off the guard rails 2 minutes into the drama - what a mess).
Of course, one of the main problems with the bridge is that it's a drawbridge. And of course, it's going to be replaced by another one, because drawbridges are the last thing you want on one of the major travel arteries in the Western Hemsiphere. So our problems aren't really over, they've just become hideously more expensive and shiny, (like most things around here). But at least for one glorious moment, the old bridge, (named after my least favorite president) will come tumbling down. Bye bye Willie, see you in Hell...
