I always loved Big Brother & The Holding Company, probably for the same reason a lot of sophisticates hated 'em - they always sounded like the musical equivalent of a car taking a turn too fast - two wheels off the pavement and everyone waiting for the crash. But they had a beautiful enthusiasm and love of musical experimentation and combination that made them unique. And Janis, well, there's only one Janis.
