Black 47 perform James Connolly

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwEv2YCrSoY

Another band you've likely never heard of, performing one of their best songs. A great Irish/American/Rock band. I can't say enough nice things about these guys.

Booker T & The MG's perform Time Is Tight

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dHq4laFwAEM

So cool...

The Everlys perform Bowling Green

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RF_ut2L5A6U

My fave Everly Brothers song. Reminds me of sunny afternoons in my beloved Colorado back in '67...

Wanda Jackson performs Fujiyama Mama

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jVs3iwkAP0k&feature=related

Almost forgotten now, Jackson was as hard rockin' as any man. The Queen of Rockabilly. Essential.

more fake Beatles rip-offs

http://blog.wfmu.org/freeform/2008/02/fake-beatles--1.html

Pretty interesting. The "John & Paul" record sounds like the song was written by Sonny Bono, (and I'm not sure it wasn't...). The "You Know Who" sound a bit like the Mindbenders. The Guess Who remind me of early Manfred Mann. That first album by them had the coolest cover - a couple dancing the jerk in an aluminum foil covered room! Ow!

Michael Martin Murphey performs Geronimo's Cadillac

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4Hn4kMzp50

Another great song. Murphey has become one of the great performers of cowboy music, (another passion of mine). Before that, he was a sort of hippie country singer and this is one of my faves by him from those times.

Canned Heat perform On The Road Again

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gm4MXwrXXgo

So cool. Great song to drive to late at night. A classic.

Little Anthony & The Imperials perform Goin' Out Of My Head

Life in DC

http://www.wtopnews.com/?nid=25&sid=1350460

First of all, this has gotta be the easiest title in the newspaper world. All you have to do is keep it on hand and fill in the blank: "D.C. __________ is getting worse." Go ahead, put in anything - crime, the school system, the fire department, the rescue squads, the hospital, the police, public works, the library system, city services, etc., etc., ad infinitum. It's all true now, and will be truer this time next year. And this article is SOOOOO DC - they actually spent $93,000,000 (!) to make it worse. Classic. They didn't get rid of the Lorton Prison, they simply renamed it the DC Government. The Olympian Ideal of Incompetence, Laziness, Corruption and Ignorance.

Rock'n'Gloom. Perfection.

Al Stewart performs Year of the Cat

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QM7LR46zrQU

One of my faves. 30+ years ago. A night just like tonight, bitterly cold and damp, sloshing around Gtown with Roger and Margrete. Mr. Smith's, Desperado's, Winston's, Cafe de Paris. Too many tom collins and the fog rolling in...

Steely Dan perform My Old School

Last Man - the end of WWI

http://www.historywire.com/2008/02/newsweekcom-of.html

And time lopes along. It must be kind of surreal knowing you're the last of your generation/group. And the way history is taught and appreciated (NOT), it must be kind of sad knowing that few will have any idea what you and your companions went through, what your lives were like, etc. More people know who Britney Spears last fucked, than know anything about World War I, or it's consequences.

The Eagles & The Cellar Door - a little history

http://www.eaglesfans.com/community/meetings/viens.htm
(Thanks for the link, Erik!)

The Door was a pretty interesting place. I certainly would call it intimate. Hell, I'd call it claustrophobic! The tables were about the size of my mousepad. Around these were placed chairs that had been designed by anoerexics with a penchant for sado-masochism. But the shows were great, (if I could only remember most of 'em...). John Cale gave a wonderful performance that I still remember as one of the five or six best I've ever seen, Kinky Friedman was there with all the Texas Jew Boys jammed on the tiny stage; and I saw an early performance by the Urban Verbs that was absolutely riveting. Fun stuff....

Behind Glen Echo...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Behind_the_Mask:_The_Rise_of_Leslie_Vernon

I just got a copy of the DVD - Behind the Mask, The Rise Of Leslie Vernon, (thanks Roger!). It's great! A "mockumentary" of some film students interviewing and following around a mass murderer in the mold of Jason/Freddy/Texas Chainsaw Massacre, etc. And it supposedly takes place right here in our own little Glen Echo, Maryland, (although it clearly wasn't shot there). The film features dozens of in-jokes and cameos and has some creepily funny scenes dealing with a film genre that's ripe for satire.
