Happy Birthday to Yes, Minister!
http://www.bbc.co.uk/comedy/yesminister/
Brilliant. This, along with its sequel, Yes Prime Minister, is one of the best, and few, TV shows that understands and captures politics and government correctly. Despite its British subject manner, I can assure all of you outlanders, that this is exactly how DC works...
Happy Birthday Carroll Borland!

She was a very minor actress. But her vampire look has survived the ages.

The Cult of the Moon Beast

Another fascinating little tale of the occult. I will point out that something vaguely similar was hinted about during the infamous Son of Sam murders....
The Witch Men of Chile

Fascinating little bit of history.
a stupid story about the Poe Toaster
http://gralienreport.com/folklore/nevermore-the-mib-at-edgar-allan-poes-grave/
The Poe Toaster didn't exist for seven generations, merely one and a half. The identities of both individuals were known to the curator of the Poe House, (enabling him to identify the 'real' toaster, as opposed to the many fakes who show up that evening). The reality is a fun little story and pseudo-mystery, and has nothing to do with the MIB.
A bad habit to get into...
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-21534215
Actually, I see potential for some sort of annual "Nun Day" at the pub. Anyone who comes in dressed appropriately gets the first one on the house, etc.

A short article about the White Rose
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-21521060
These were the real, (and all too few) heroes in Germany during the nazi regime. Long-time readers will remember my utter disgust at the marketing given to the hypocrites of the aristocrat/officers' conspiracy, all of whom giddily supported hitler until the Russians' advance threatened their Prussian estates. The White Rose were the real deal and the real opposition, pathetic though it may have been.

You know, recently someone found a big wad of this stuff on the beach, and a bunch of you good people sent me the link, and I didn't publish; simply because I thought Ambergris was sort of known about by the general public. But clearly, that doesn't seem to be the case, (I suppose it may say something about me that whale mucous is a topic not considered particularly exotic...). So yes, by all means, scour the beaches for that lucrative lugee!

Congrats to Lititz, Pennsylvania!
American's coolest small town!
http://www.budgettravel.com/contest/americas-coolest-small-towns-2013,14/#candidate-detail12246
Yes, I know it's just a little popularity contest. Nevertheless, I'm impressed by the choice. Lititz is definitely my favorite town in Pennsylvania, have visited there dozens of times and always find it charming. Highly recommended!
In terms of Colorado, I confess to being a little surprised to see Glenwood Springs at the top of the heap. It's okay, but I never found it particularly charming, (and their geography forces the road system to be a bit of a hassle). I'd suggest Durango, Ft. Collins, Montrose, Dolores, Lake City, Telluride, or Ridgway.

A very nice analysis/attack on the current state of radio
http://kenlevine.blogspot.com/2013/02/terrestrial-radio-sucks.html
I couldn't agree more. And I was a radio fanatic. Now, I'd rather kiss the backside of a barbary ape than listen to the corporate swill and endless commercials. I love the whole idea of radio, and hate the idea of paying for something that was once free, but I am forced to, in order to hear the magic that once was and can be again - Little Steven's Underground Garage, and it's full-time Sirius channel . It represents everything that I love about rock'n'roll and radio.

And the rot sets in...
http://www.wtop.com/1228/3223223/Makers-Mark-cutting-alcohol-volume-in-its-bourbon
My second favorite distillery sells out. Curious, isn't it, how they've successfully used a recipe for decades, (with great success), and suddenly change it - claiming that it makes no difference at all. And all coinciding with the greed element of cutting your ingredients with water to increase supply. I wonder what would have been the response, say, five or ten years ago, if I'd told them that their recipe wasn't all that important, and that they needed to water it down.

I'm not a huge fan of comics, (outside of the old Warren and EC horror titles), but I always knew that Wertham and his fellow moral scolds were crackpots. It's nice to see them exposed and humiliated.
